A petition at the White House “We the People” website demands that charges of treason be brought against President Obama, Andrew Spalding reported at TellMeNow.com on Monday. At the time, the petition had only 785 signatures. But the petition has picked up steam in the last two days, and as of this writing has over 13,200 signatures.
The petition says Obama has surrendered war-making authority to “foreign powers and international authorities” and cites the administration’s actions in helping remove Libyan dictator Moammar Khaddafi. The petition says Obama did so without consulting Congress, in violation of U.S. Constitution Article 1, Section 8 and U.S. Code Title 50, Chapter 33:1541-1548. As we reported at the time, Obama made it clear to Congress that he didn’t need to seek approval for his action in Libya.
The petition also accuses Obama of “refusing to secure our broken borders from illegal alien invasion, international criminal incursion, and terrorist cadre penetration, in violation of U.S. Constitution, Article III, Section 3 and Article IV, Section 4.” More than once, Obama has made it clear he wants amnesty for illegal immigrants and has actively worked to ensure the border remains insecure.
Worse yet, a border patrol agent told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that the Department of Homeland Security is manipulating data to make the American public believe the border is secure, when the opposite is true. According to the agent, the border is overrun, with some 60 percent of all illegal immigrants going free.
“I want to be crystal clear – the border is not secure,” border agent Chris Cabrera said. “Ask any line agent in the field and he or she will tell you that at best we apprehend 35 to 40 percent of the illegal immigrants attempting to cross. This number is even lower for drug smugglers who are much more adept at eluding capture.”
Moreover, Cabrera said agents who report large groups of illegal immigrants face retribution. “Management will either take them out of the field and assign them to processing detainees at the station or assign them to a fixed position in low volume areas as punishment,” he said. As a result, agents tend to refrain from reporting groups of more than 20 illegal aliens.
The petition goes on to accuse Obama of giving aid and comfort to America’s enemies. A post at Political Insider says that in 2008, then-Senator Obama sent former Ambassador William G. Miller to Tehran to let the Iranian regime know that things would be much different once he was in the White House, a move that effectively undercut President George Bush.
Now, Obama is seeking to secure a nuclear deal with Iran even as Iranian leaders say they are in a global war that will ensure the flag of Islam will fly over the White House. At the same time, Obama campaign operatives worked unsuccessfully to unseat Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Political Insider’s Rusty Weiss suggested the petition is in response to one that called for charges of treason against 47 Republicans who wrote an open letter to Iran’s leadership. That effort, he added, has garnered over 260,000 signatures.
But it is highly unlikely the White House will actually file charges of treason against its own chief executive simply because a petition reaches a goal of 100,000 signatures, given that administration officials approve of Obama’s actions. Nevertheless, it does indicate a deep resentment of Obama’s policies, even if it seen as a mere publicity stunt.
